Use Flower Clips For Your Hair To Create Wedding Hairpieces by Janet Weirich

Looking for something really special to wear for your wedding?  You will be pleasantly surprised at what can be done with simple flower clips for your hair.

The most beautiful flowers can be made with organdy, velvet, and organza. When placed on an alligator clip, they become amazing bridal accessories.

Flower clips can consist of one flower, a grouping of several flowers, or a combination of flowers, feathers, pearls, ribbons, or crystals.

They can be used alone or with a veil. Birdcage veils are becoming a very popular choice and work so well with hair clips. The netting used to make a birdcage veil comes in 9" and 12" widths, but it can be cut into very small pieces if only a hint of the veil is chosen.

When the netting is folded into a circle, it can be used to form a base for the fabric flowers. A simple bow can also be designed with the netting or it can be used to cover a disc base for a soft, feminine look.

French or Russian netting comes in several colors including white, ivory, black, and gold. It can be dyed to match any color and some styles will have soft dots scattered across the piece. The diamond pattern will vary in size and crystals can be attached to enhance the look.

A beautiful combination of different fabrics and slightly different colors of fabric will make a very special flower. If it is to match a pink bridesmaids dress for example, try using a light pink fabric with a very pale pink and accenting it with just a hint of pink.

By using three shades of the same color, it will give the overall look of a three dimensional piece. A bridal piece could be made with white, ivory, and cream. Soft olive green leaves will give just a hint of color while keeping the focus on the main color combination.

Using different textures also adds interest and makes a more beautiful piece. Silk, velvet, feathers, and crystals or pearls is such a nice combination with a variety of textures.

Feathers add a soft, elegant touch to the flower clip. They can be very small to allow the flower to become the focal point, or they can be large and prominent such as an ostrich feather. A feather this large will then become the focal point and the flower will be subordinate.

Feathers can be dyed or clipped to create unusual shapes such as arrows or diamond shapes. They can be curled using the same technique as curling ribbon. A pair of scissors is a good tool for this. Another unique feather is made by stripping off most of the plume leaving only the tip. This makes a perfect line material and gives it an artsy look.

A simple cluster of feathers to form the "flower" makes a beautiful clip. Bind the ends of the feathers together with jewelry wire or glue and attach a button, broach, crystals, pearls, or ribbon. This is a simple elegant hair clip and can be placed in almost any position in the hair.
